Debut Novel - The German General's English Wife
A FILM NOIR ON PAPER.
How would an Anglo-American woman married to a rising German officer survive a war that would engulf the world?
Germany, 1938. Anita Weiss lives a privileged, almost idyllic life on her husband Joachim’s ancestral agricultural estate near Hannover, while balancing the expectations and demands of the wife of a Wehrmacht staff officer.
But as the Nazi regime tightens its grip, they strip away the freedoms Anita holds dear. While her world shrinks, Joachim’s expands; his uniform gaining new insignia, new burdens, and a terrifyingly inevitable direction.
While Germany marches to a drumbeat she cannot reconcile, Anita longs to flee to the relative safety of America. But Joachim is bound by tradition, duty, and an unyielding sense of honour to his Fatherland.
As war arrives, Anita finds it has other uses for a woman who speaks perfect German and understands the psychology of the German officer class. What it asks of her will cost more than she imagined, and the further she goes, the harder it becomes to say whose side she is on.
When loyalty becomes a death sentence, how far will she go?
A carefully researched, gripping noir of love, espionage, and survival in history’s darkest hour.
Third edition, July 2026. A complete rewrite; tighter, sharper, and substantially revised throughout. Readers of the earlier editions will find a leaner, faster book.
